My New York Food: Heems

RAPPER AND FOUNDER OF GREEDHEAD MUSIC

il Buco Alimentari & Vineria

I sit at the coffee bar, double espresso in hand, and imagine being an older Italian man. Like, what if I were Al Pacino? Could you imagine? I daydream of watching construction sites—hands clasped behind my back like my Indian grandfather—offering unwanted advice to the workers.

I watch an older man walk in, with exquisite hair and well-tailored clothing. Everyone smiles; he kind of looks like Al Pacino. He emerges with a long brown bag full of focaccia. I’ve never wanted to be someone so badly. The server tells me the focaccia is fresh right now. “Nah, I’m alright. Thanks though.” I can’t eat those carbs: I chose to be in show business and with that come sacrifices. As I’m walking out, I hear the server calling me with a long brown bag in hand. He utters those words every man loves to hear: “It’s on the house.” I mouth what comes naturally: “Grazie.”
