I’ve always thought that a mayonnaise-themed celebration on Cinco de Mayo was a goldmine of untapped wordplay opportunity. But this year the Village Voice is coming close to spreading the love with their yearly Choice Streets event, a food truck rodeo with enough bread and spread representation to egg us on. The outdoor fun starts at 7:00 p.m. on May 5 on Pier 86, and tickets are on sale now. The $55 general admission ticket comes with free drinks and samples from more than 20 of their critics’ favorite mobile food vendors.

Newbies this year include Hungarian langos, unpretentious Italian pasta and dumplings and Asian-Mexican fusion. But we’re mostly looking forward to Snowday, the new(ish) maple-themed truck that hits all the environmental and social justice high points: they source from great farms, employ formerly incarcerated youth, and send all profits directly back to Drive Change.

A portion of the proceeds will go to Slow Food NYC, and they’re accepting volunteer applications through Friday. Should the event be rained out, it will take place on Friday, May 8.
