Movies on Tap

The sea change in craft beer production the world ’round has been a rising tide that shows no signs of draining out anytime soon. Last year saw the opening of 310 microbreweries and 99 brew pubs in the U.S. alone, according to the Brewers Association. Makes you thirsty just thinking about it, doesn’t it?

To get pumped for this week’s beer-centric event, Savor NYC, go get yourself tickets to tonight’s premiere of the documentary Beer Hunter about the life and times of Michael Jackson, the man largely credited with bringing the brewed beauty of many of the world’s great small craft suds and whiskey spawners to light. Jackson, who wrote the beer bible The World Guide to Beer, died in 2007, but his influence on the craft brewing movement still reverberates through the ever-growing discussion of what’s on tap. I’ll be heading over to the Anthology Film Archives tonight to check it out and hear hosts Jimmy Carbone of Jimmy’s No. 43 and Beer Sessions Radio, Steve Hindy of Brooklyn Brewery, and other local ale aficionados talk about Jackson’s influence.
