The International Culinary Center Announces the Marcella Hazan Scholarship

For many eaters and drinkers, the the importance of Marcella Hazan’s legacy is unquestionable. She is the undisputed matriarch of the regional Italian cooking in the United States who first established herself as a culinary authority while teaching cooking classes out of her Manhattan apartment in the ’70s. She went on to publish several cookbooks and was known as an honest, adamant and open defender of traditional Italian cookery (our own Amy Zavatto once corresponded via Facebook with her about the Feast of the Seven Fishes tradition).

One of the many institutions that have been significantly influenced by Hazan’s methods is New York’s own International Culinary Center. After her passing last fall, the school has established a Marcella Hazan scholarship: a $20,000 tuition aid award for a student enrolled in the Italian Culinary Experience at the ICC’s New York location. Selection for the scholarship is based on “financial needs, merits, culinary goals, a passion for Italian cooking and a thoughtful expression of regard for the teachings and food philosophy of Marcella Hazan.”
