Highlights from our Food Event Calendar: Pickle Fests, The History of Wine, and Long Island Brews

On Sunday, November 13th, stop by the New Amsterdam Market for the Peck Slip Pickle Festival.

While Edible cooks up plenty of our own events (stay tuned for details about Good Spirits 2012, and enter to win tickets right here), below are some upcoming items from our comprehensive calendar we think you’ll want to dig into:

WINE IN BROOKLYN: Wine in New York: A History in the Tasting with Brooklyn Historical Society on the history of wine culture in New York will take place tomorrow night from 7 to 10 p.m. in the parlor of the Brooklyn Winery. Panelists includes special guests Ray Isle, Executive Wine Director of Food and Wine magazine; Talia Biocchi, Wine Columnist for Eater NY; David Naczycz, founder of Urban Oyster, and a member of the Brooklyn Winery team.  Tickets are $15.

PICKLES IN MANHATTAN: On Sunday, November 13th, stop by New Amsterdam Market from 11 a.m.  to 5 p.m. for the Peck Slip Pickle Festival.  There will be samples, a home-pickling and fermenting competition, traditional bialys and a talk by food writer par excellence Mimi Sheraton, who wrote The Bialy Eaters. (Check out our peek into her kitchen.)  Find more information here, including how to enter your own creation in the competition.

BEER ON THE EAST END: On Friday November 4th at 7p.m., join the Jamesport Manor Inn and Greenport Harbor Brewing Company for a collaborative Four Course Beer Pairing and Tasting Dinner.  Chef Michael Mandleur and Brewery Manager Justin Wesnofske will present a menu which pairs New American Cuisine with local seasonal Greenport Harbor brews.  Call the restaurant at (631) 722-0500 for reservations or make them through OpenTable.com
