With endless aphrodisiacs, a cameo by Salvador Dali and other interactive eating-as-theater elements, the Underground Eats kickoff event was worthy of the title, “Absurdity at the McKittrick Hotel.”
On this evening the McKittrick–home to the hands-on, MacBethian performance experience, “Sleep No More”–became a Depression-era speakeasy with actors and guests adorned accordingly. There were flappers and sugar daddys, Prohibition-era cocktails and plenty of dancing. The edible lineup included absinthe, oysters, lobster, and foie gras, and VIP tickets included a tour of the Sleep No More sets and a provocative performance by a banana-bottomed dancer.
