Tonight author Eric Schlosser shows up at the 92Y Tribeca for a talk-back following a screening of Richard Linklater’s film Fast Food Nation, an event that will kick off the Y’s summer-long series called Eat this Film. It will explore the intersection of filmmaking and food, an ever-popular medium these days. Tonight’s screening is paired with a rarely shown French nonfiction short on the inner workings of a slaughterhouse called Blood of the Beasts or Le Sang des Betes, made 60 years before Fast Food Nation. Over at Murray’s Cheese, Chris Munsey of Dickson’s Farmstand Meats is also getting to the “meat” of the matter, preaching the gospel about locally-produced charcuterie. Uptown, the Culinary Historians of New York invite Damian Mosley to discuss Harlem pre-1960, and how impressions of the neighborhood were formed through race and food. By Friday we’re always ready to roll up our sleeves, and will happily do so at Hill Country where the Potlikker Film Fest begins the weekend of Big Apple Barbecue activities that will fill Madison Square Park with pitmasters and finger-licking, beer-drinking crowds of admirers.

Spend Saturday volunteering at Red Hook’s Added Value farm, noshing on pies at Jimmy’s No. 43 to raise funds for BK Farmyards, or head to the Bronx where the Baum Forum holds the Highway to Health Youth Forum.

Last, but not least, we’d like to tip our hats to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, who celebrates its centennial this weekend with a grand old Bee-day!
