Where to Eat and Drink in the Flatiron District

We’ll be real: Eating and drinking in the Flatiron District is a bit pricey, which is why it might be wiser to move slightly east and north toward Lexington to eat at the nearby neighborhood’s fine Indian restaurants (Sahib is especially good). But the Flatiron has its charms, and from the post-work espresso pickup to the pre-dinner cocktail to a range of cuisines, we can guide any visitor.

Birch Coffee
21 E. 27th St.
Birch sources and roasts its own coffee, and they have locations all around the city, but this one tends to be on the quieter side, especially in the evening, and can provide both an excellent cup and a moment of peace.

Cosme
35 E. 21st St.
This Mexican restaurant from chefs Enrique Olvera and Daniela Soto-Innes (the latter being the one running day-to-day operations) offers brunch, lunch and dinner, along with a stellar list of agave spirits, cocktails and other beverages. For the best huevos rancheros and chilaquiles in town—and much more—pop in.

Covina
127 E. 27th St.
For a place that still flies a bit under the radar, head to the Park South Hotel for wood-fired Mediterranean cuisine, along with a stellar beverage program. The hummus and housemade pita goes very well with any drink you choose, if stopping by only for a snack.

The Flatiron Room
37 W. 26th St.
Want to feel classic? Order a Martini, Manhattan or Old-Fashioned here and forget the outside world.

Marta
29 E. 29th St.
Thin-crust pizzas (and more) in a high-ceilinged setting in the Redbury New York Hotel, along with a great amaro selection to tie it all together.

Pondicheri
15 W. 27th St.
This Houston import brings all-day Indian fare to the neighborhood, perfect for a breakfast or lunch meeting. As a bonus, the menu tells guests what is gluten free, vegan or could be made vegan, making it accessible for any and all dietary restrictions.

Upland
345 Park Ave S.
California reigns and vegetables come first at this big, airy spot that’s also a good choice for meetings. The menu is big and salad-heavy, with pizzas, pastas and a whole veg section, as well.
