For our annual travel issue, we sent writer Nancy Matsumoto north to Vermont’s Shelburne Farms, built by the Vanderbilt family over a century ago as a spare-no-expense agricultural showcase and country estate. Today the soaring historic home has been transformed to a well-worth-the-trip Inn surrounded by a working dairy farm making prize-winning farmstead cheese, all in support of a non-profit providing world-class environmental education. This video shows how their visionary founders turned a crumbling mansion into a place that make environmental stewards out of visitors of all ages.
