Eat Drink Local Restaurants: The Neighborhood Cheat Sheet

How many little red dots can you hit in 11 days?

Eat Drink Local week begins tomorrow (!) and some of our favorite restaurants across our region — get the complete list, searchable by neighborhood, right here — will be pitching to highlight local foods, farmers and purveyors even more than they normally do. We don’t know about you, but often we like to dine peripatetic style, bouncing around for fluke crudo here, lamb sausage there and Concord grape sorbet somewhere else. Hence our 11-day neighborhood cheat sheet below, for those who want to experience three dinners a night, just like we do.

Below 14th Street

Down at the lower end of Manhattan you’ll find Lager Steamed Littleneck Clams at Back Forty, a vegan Bloody Mary at Counter, and New York Craft Beer Week meets Eat Drink Local Week at Hearth. Head over to Hecho en Dumbo (in the Bowery, that is) for Fresh Scallop Ceviche. In SoHo, they’ll be pouring plenty of New York wine at L’Ecole and Savoy is featuring clam, duck and squash (that’s three of our fantastic 11 ingredients of the day). In Chelsea, you’ll find Concord Grape Sorbet at The Green Table, while Txikito is offering Basque specialities, and there are also plenty of ethnic eats given a locavore spin at Momofuku Noodle Bar, Cabrito, and Fatty Crab.

Midtown

On the west side in Hell’s Kitchen, Concord Grape Tarts, Local Fluke Crudo and an Apple Cider Bellini are on the menu at Esca.  Meanwhile across town on the East Side, Wild Mushroom Veloute and Roasted Lamb Sausage can be found at Aquavit.

Uptown

Follow the smell of Butternut Squash Soup and Samascott Apple Pie to Henry’s on the Upper West Side.  Wild Hive Farm Cornmeal Dusted Fried Clams are on the menu at Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola at Lincoln Center.  Vegetarians might venture to Sotheby’sTerrace Café on the Upper East Side for their Farro salad with Dried Tart Cherries and Baby Spinach on Sept. 27th, while carnivores can find Brooklyn Brewery Ale Braised BBQ Pork Butt on a Brioche Roll on the 28th.

And if those aren’t enough options, here’s the complete list of our restaurant partners in Manhattan, who are dishing up locavore price-fixed menus, ingredients of the day and New York beer, wine and spirits from tomorrow until October 6th. And you can also check out our lists for Brooklyn and Long Island, too.
