Editor’s note: Our upcoming travel issue features several firsts including a coloring book page, my editor’s letter and a poem. Maxine, a fellow Brooklynite, wrote to us from her mother’s email address earlier this summer:
My name is Maxine and I am in 3rd Grade in Brooklyn. I love food and I love to write poetry. I wrote this poem after a visit to the Union Square Farmers Market. Please consider publishing it in your magazine!
Unlike many of the pitches I receive, there was no question. I replied requesting that she illustrate it too, and thanks to her supportive and enthusiastic mom (you’re awesome, Heather!), we’re honored to share Maxine’s print debut:
Farmer’s Market
By: Maxine (age 8)
The meat it steams in the air.
The veggies dance in the sweet blues.
Flowers bloom here and there.
For there is no happiness like mine, for I have been eating poetry!
As inspired by Maxine’s poem as we are? Want to pitch us an equally creative idea? Write to us at info@ediblemanhattan.com
