Mark your calendar: It’s time to join Just Food at Columbia University’s Teachers College on March 15 for their annual conference. The conference will focus on the importance of equity in the food system on a variety of scales and the keynote speaker will be Eric Holt-Giménez of Food First, an Oakland-based organization working towards food justice and global food sovereignty through research and activism.
The conference will attract over 700 participants and features speakers that include farmers, activists and educators. Planned topics encompass a huge cross-section of the food movement, and you’ll have the chance to participate in workshops with titles like “Equity in City Government,” “Making Food Education Relevant and Relatable” and “Soil Science Basics.”
The lunchtime Campaign Action Sessions are one of the most exciting components of the conference. They give attendees the chance to learn more about specific food policy issues and provide action plans that correspond with current campaigns. Topics include GMO labeling and the Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act, and you’ll leave with a clear idea of where these campaigns stand and how you can further them.
