What We’re Attending: July 5, 2014

Not only are our CSAs in full swing (only a week or so away from the Annual Zucchini Wallop), but our calendars are also packed—incredible eating-and-drinking events are popping up all over the city and beyond. Here, our editors give you a sampler of what they’re attending.

Baking Summer Berries, Pies and Tarts with Chef Mike Colameco and King Arthur Flour

Summer is nearly upon us and city sidewalks are stained with the juice of ripe, plump berries. With all these fruits at hand, we were happy to see that Chef Mike Colameco–host of the daily radio program “Food Talk” and “Colameco’s Food Show”on Channel 13–has teamed up with King Arthur flour for an upcoming cooking demonstration called Baking Summer Berries, Pies and Tarts.

Although it feels like spring is beginning, it is indeed still technically February, that means Valentine’s Day. Below are a few Edible-approved ways to woo this year. This Week on the Event Calendar: Forecasting the Year Ahead in Food, Farm Policy and Politics

Predicting the weather is Punxsutawney Phil’s domain. Predicting what’s going to happen when it comes to food, farm policy and politics? That’s where the NYC Food Almanac 2012 comes in. On January 24th from 6:30 to 9 pm at 632Below, a group of experts (including Edible’s own Brian Halweil) will predict what will happen and call for what should happen with a panel discussion and Q&A.

Stay Warm the Best Way We Know How: With a Ticket to Good Spirits

It’s beginning to feel a lot like winter, right? Mittens, scarves and puffy parkas are all well and good, but when it comes to warming seriously chilled bones, they can’t quite compete with stiff drink. It’s safe to say that February will be frigid, so prepare early and get your tickets (available here) to Good Spirits, our seasonally inspired cocktail event on February 28th from 6 to 9 pm at 82 Mercer in Soho. Ce Que Vous Mangez: The French Embassy Hosts a Conference on Food (avec Marion Nestle et Politique Alimentaire!)

Though it probably seems like a natural to readers of this magazine, rarely does the French Embassy host food events. But next Monday they are, and it’s one to skip work for. No no, it’s not the world’s biggest round of Epoisses or a tasting of sparking cidre from Normandy (though we’d be down for both) but a day-long program investigating the intersection of food culture and health from French and American points of view.
