The past few issues of Edible Manhattan have all ended with a short photo essay on our city’s culinary past, penned by the historians at the Museum of the City of New York. This Thursday night the institution is focusing on the present, with a lecture by Jonathan Dixon, the author of Beaten, Seared, and Sauced: On Becoming a Chef at the Culinary Institute of America and Andrew Friedman, who wrote Knives at Dawn: America’s Quest for Culinary Glory at the Legendary Bocuse d’Or Competition (Free Press, 2009). The pair will talk about the hyper-competitive and hyper-obsessed New York City food world from the perspective of chefs at the beginning of their careers and at the top. The talk is in conjunction with an exhibit up until June that we profiled in our current issue called “Moveable Feast: Fresh Produce and the NYC Green Carts Program,” so get there early to take a peek.
