You don’t have to be Jewish to know that the art of latke is every bit as sophisticated as the art of lattes. Too much juiciness, they fall apart. Too much matzo meal, they’re dry. And, of course, we can’t ignore the highly controversial decision to grate or chop the potatoes.
When fall rolls around, do you pull out Bubby’s oil-stained recipe card or do you make up your own modern version using beets from the Greenmarket? Are you a garnish purist, strictly sour cream or applesauce for you, or do you jazz your latkes up with jalapeños, strawberries or sriracha? You name it, we want to taste it.
We’re looking for the best of the borough for our December 10th Latke Festival at BAM, hosted with Great Performances. Just e-mail your favorite recipe— yours or Bubby’s— to info@ediblebrooklyn.com by November 19th. The winner (chosen by a panel of highly qualified potato pancake eaters) will get to show off his or her fried creation at the event alongside some of the city’s best chefs and win a brand-new Breville 5-quart die-cast Scraper Mixer Pro stand mixer (valued at $299.99!). We know you don’t need a machine this fancy for your latke making, but it will take your holiday cake baking to a whole new level.
