Attention homebrewers! (Yes, you with the fermenting bucket and C-Brite.) The awesome folks of the Good Beer Seal, Whole Foods Market and Kelso of Brooklyn brewery want your beer. Home-brew kit sales, demos and brewery tours have all been on the rise in this town for some time, so they’ve figured you’re ready for a throwdown, right? This September 24th, judging will commence for the Local Homebrew Hero, the city’s first-ever homebrewing competition. Want in?
Once you’ve mastered your brew, submit four bottles to the Beer Room at Whole Foods Market Bowery — sorry, lower than 7% ABV only! — for a chance at citywide bragging rights. Not enough? Okay, there’s prizes, too—big ones.
First place wins time at Kelso of Brooklyn to perfect your chosen beer, which will then be put on tap at 1 of 5 Whole Foods Market stores, in addition to some Good Beer Seal-approved bars (30 barrels in total). The Homebrew Hero will also get $300 worth of home-brew gear from Whole Foods Market Bowery, and the winning beer will be presented at a tasting party at Jimmy’s No. 43 before it goes on sale—surely enough to swell the entrepreneurial mind with keg coolers and draft handles.
Runner-ups, fret not: Second place will come away with $200 worth of start-up gear; third place, $100. Entries will be accepted from August 23rd to September 17th (with no entry fee) so download details and forms right here, and get hopping! Literally.
