Next week, two of life’s greatest joys converge on the corner of 3rd Avenue and 11th Street.
Yes, it’s the most wonderful time of the year in the East Village (aside from the Tompkins Square Halloween Parade): the annual Food Film Fest.
The four-day long event pairs a long-overdue match made in heaven: original documentaries with top-notch food from Michelin-starred chefs like Phillip Foss of EL Ideas and Paolo Laboa of San Francisco’s Farina.
We can’t decide which event we’re most excited about. It’s a close tie between the debut of Finding Gaston, a full-length documentary about Peru’s superstar chef Gaston Acurio shown alongside a spread of peruvian classics like ceviche and pisco sours; and a night devoted to the ocean, with a series of short films about aquaculture including The Oyster Men and The Mobile Blues served up diver oysters from Long Island and other seafood treats from Root & Bone’s Jeff McInnis and PUBLIC’s Brad Farmerie (also Michelin starred, but of course.)
