All those April showers have paid off. And this weekend promises the kind of sunshine that makes you want to drive upstate and drink wine amidst May’s flowers.
Except that would involve a lot of travel time. And a car.
Instead, hop the train to the New York Botanical Garden up in the Bronx for their “Wine in the Native Plant Garden” festivities, 11-5 Saturday and Sunday. Tour the many blooming species, glass in hand, and attend workshops about viticulture and wine making, led by experts like Jessica Galen, manager at Lucy’s Whey Carnegie Hill, and Danielle Oteri, curator of Feast on History, who espouses the Italian philosophy that “what grows together, goes together.”
Or just enjoy the live bluegrass and sip your way through New York State — offerings include more than a dozen locavore pours from the likes of Atwater, Brotherhood and City Winery.
And tell winter to stick a cork in it.
