As luck would have it many of the local food craftsfolk we’ve covered in our pages, like the peanut butter producers shown above, will ship their artisanal goods right to your dad, grandad, or father figure in your life by June 19th. (Yes, that’s right, Father’s Day is June 19th, so buy now so you don’t forget and end up resorting to that tired old idea to buy a tie.) You can always comb through our complete list of stories on booze producers, canners, picklers, chocolatiers, bread bakers, winemakers and other specialty food makers and sellers right here for ideas.
Or you could check out The Tasting Table, which put together a fantastic Father’s Day Gift Guide for every price point, practically pulling right from our pages: Check it out here. And Rick’s Picks offers personality-specific pickle-picks for dad: Mean Beans (crisp dilly beans spiked with lots of cayenne) for the “spicy” dad or the dad who lives on bloody marys and dirty martinis, or Classic Sours(garlic and dill in a crunchy deli-style spear) for the “straight-up” or “traditionist” dad who takes his pickles without drink.
Another idea that’s recently come across our desks is the Summertime Picnic Basket from Peanut Butter & Co. It might sound mundane to send pop a PB&J, but this peanut butter made right here in the city — and we assume you’ll be on hand to picnic with him. The basket includes two peanut butter sandwiches of your choice, allowing you to choose from the Lunchbox Special, Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Sandwich, Peanut Butter Cup, or a Fluffernutter option. (There’s also soda, chips, carrot sticks, peanut butter cookies, and mints.) It’s $28 (plus tax) and can be ordered by calling (212) 677-3995.
Happy Father’s Day!
