Friends, seriously, quit your day job now. Anne Saxelby is looking for someone to become the newest cheesemonger at her Essex Street Market shop and that someone could be you. (Side note: Anne herself learned the ropes working behind the counter at Murray’s Cheese and look where she is now!) You’ll find the full job description is below, but suffice to say, we’re jealous of all you job hunters.
Saxelby Cheesemongers is New York’s first cheese shop devoted to locally sourced cheeses. Saxelby’s sells a premier selection of regional farmstead cheese to retail customers in our Essex Market shop as well as a growing number of restaurants and shops throughout the city.
We pride ourselves on selecting cheeses from small producers who farm sustainably with respect for their land and animals. The range of cheeses available at Saxelby Cheesemongers changes throughout the year as we work with and celebrate the seasonal nature of cheesemaking.
We are looking for a fun, energetic, outgoing individual to sell cheese at our Essex Street Market shop.
Previous experience working in a retail environment (especially one where working with cheese) is a plus. Applicants must be extremely detail-oriented, good at multi-tasking, and most of all, must love people and the fine art of selling cheese!
Responsibilities include: opening and closing the shop, managing daily cash, interacting with retail customers and chefs, cutting and wrapping cheeses, preparing wholesale orders for pickup, stocking and organizing inventory. Applicants should be prepared to commit at least one year to the position.
Applicants should also be well-versed in social media and able to maintain and grow the shop’s current social media pages.
