It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since Hurricane Sandy. With most of us back to our daily routines, it’s easy to overlook the thousands of New Yorkers that are still feeling the impact of the storm.
One community group continues to lift the spirits of those who were hit the hardest. The Rockaway Rescue Alliance Shore Soup Project, formed in the aftermath of Sandy, has distributed healthy meals in the Rockaways for the past year. During the winter, the organization delivered more than 50,000 fresh, healthy meals to community members. They now run a pay-as-you-can mobile kitchen and hope to establish a permanent relief restaurant called SHORE.
This Wednesday, October 23, the Shore Soup Project will host a fundraiser to benefit the Rockaways. To celebrate all the organization has done so far, local food and drink vendors will come together at The Bowery Hotel for a night of unlimited food with an open bar. Local artists will also feature their work through a silent auction.
Let’s help our fellow New Yorkers rebuild the community and promote access to healthy food. To purchase tickets to the benefit, click here. To donate or volunteer, click here.
