Dozens of cats with soft fur and big eyes are taking over Chelsea this March. They’re hoping you’ll stop by to visit them and maybe take one home. Cat Camp: the city’s first feline-focused conference and adoption extravaganza is taking place March 11-12.
“I’m hoping to get cats adopted and into loving homes,” said Christina Ha who is organizing Cat Camp.
Ha, the owner of cat cafe Meow Parlour and Macaron Parlour wasn’t always a cat person. Three years she had never even owned a cat but after rescuing a feral cat that was outside during a suffocating heat wave she fell in love in cats. She now lives with five rescued cats.
“They can be a lot of work but I love getting to know the cats, figuring out what makes them happy and when something clicks that’s super rewarding,” Ha said.
Now a seasoned cat rescuer Ha has met many people who love cats and wanted to create an event to bring people together to celebrate felines while providing education for those still learning about them.
During the event there will be several adoption events including one focusing on senior and special needs cats from KittyKind. There will be exhibitors from various organizations and companies, a couple of meet and greets, including one with “The Cat Daddy” Jackson Galaxy, and panels hosted by notable cat lovers including Hannah Shaw, the Kitten Lady, Kate Benjamin of Hauspanther and Adam Myatt of Cat Town.
Tickets to the event start at $15 and can be found along with more information at catcampnyc.com.
