For the first time in 30 years, Baldor is offering home deliveries.

For the first time in 30 years, Baldor—one of our region’s most legendary distributors of fresh, seasonal produce and specialty food products—is making home deliveries available, in what is, truly, the COVID-prompted pivot of our dreams. Finally, consumers have the chance to buy restaurant-grade produce, seafood and meat directly from Baldor themselves. And the best part? If you live within a 60-mile radius of New York, they’ll deliver everything straight to your door.

“We are so excited to show the typical consumer that we’re out here, and that the best ingredients that have been fueling the top restaurants in the world are now available to them at home,” says Benjamin Walker, Baldor’s VP of Sales & Marketing. “This is our number one priority right now: helping people to bring that dining experience they miss so much into their homes.”

One way that Baldor is translating the restaurant experience for New Yorkers at home is by launching their Restaurant Partnership Series. First up is a partnership with Shake Shack, featuring a “ShackBurger Kit” that’s available for purchase on Baldor’s website. Finally, Shake Shack fans can satisfy their cravings at home (Look, Ma; no mask!) thanks to this ready-to-cook kit that includes 8 custom blend patties of Pat LaFrieda Meat’s hormone- and antibiotic-free, 100% Angus beef patties; slices of high-quality, real American cheese; Luckys red tomatoes; Gotham Greens leaf lettuce; sweet and squishy Martin’s non-GMO potato rolls; and, the star of the show, the original ShackSauce. The kit also comes with easy-to-follow instructions that will hold your hand through the entire (admittedly easy) cooking process.

And this is just the beginning; Baldor will be announcing more restaurant partners soon.

“People can expect to see more iconic, very well-known and well-loved restaurants,” says Walker. “What makes New York so great is our restaurants and our entertainment. Together, that’s our culture. So right now, when the city is emptied out and people have taken refuge elsewhere, even if it’s just at home in the city, indoors, we want to bring the restaurant to you—wherever you are.”

And, by delivering everything from fresh produce to restaurant-quality meal kits from Manhattan to Montauk, that’s exactly what Baldor is doing. This is one pandemic-inspired pivot we hope will stick around.

Here are 7 things we’re ordering from Baldor this month. Delivery is free with all orders over $200, so be sure, like us, to fill your cart.

1. Pink Pineapples

Hummingbird Dream’s Pink Pineapples

La vie en rose—but make it pineapple. Grown in Costa Rica, Hummingbird Dream premium pink pineapples contain higher-than-usual levels of lycopene (similar levels are found in varieties of tomato and watermelon), which results in the fruit’s gorgeous, rosy hue. Hummingbird Dream pineapples are crownless and come in a two-pack box to conserve freshness and quality during transit.

2. The ShackBurger Kit

Shake Shack’s ShackBurger Kit

Shack Shake’s ShackBurger Kit includes enough to feed 8, making it the perfect meal kit ahead of any socially distant 4th of July barbecues. All you’ll need to add from your kitchen: butter, salt and pepper, and whatever additional, non-standard toppings you’re in the mood for. We think you can handle that.

3. Wild Caught Swordfish from Pierless Fish

Pierless Fish’s Wild Caught Swordfish

Swordfish steaks, anyone? You can’t do better than these from Pierless Fish, Brooklyn’s premier fresh seafood purveyor. Founded in 1999 by Long Island native Robert Bobby DeMasco, Pierless has always focused on local and sustainable products and responsible fish sourcing practices. Their wild swordfish is firm and dense with a clean, fresh, mild taste.

4. The Hanger Steak & Potatoes with Chimichurri Meal Kit

Baldor’s Hanger Steak & Potatoes with Chimichurri Meal Kit

Sometimes you just want meat and potatoes. This meal kit is made to deliver just that. Developed by the Baldor Kitchen chefs, this meal kit includes most of the ingredients you’ll need to make this recipe and easy-to-follow instructions, making this something you can whip up in less than an hour flat.

5. Joyce Farms Chicken, Burgers & Steaks

Joyce Farms’ Meat

A family company based in North Carolina, Joyce Farms specializes in poultry, beef, pork, and game with robust, natural flavors. We especially love their chicken, as their birds are fed all-natural, vegetable-based diets, drink only fresh water, roam freely throughout large, climate-controlled barns, and mature naturally without forced feeding. For meat eaters, this is animal protein that’s as ethical, and tasty, as you can get.

Baldor’s Mexican Street Corn Kit

Developed by the Baldor Kitchen chefs, this Mexican Street Corn kit includes everything you need to make authentic Mexican Street Corn in the comfort of your home. We’ll be ordering—and eating—this all summer.

7. Urban Roots Vegetables

Urban Roots’ Vegetables

Every day, we add to our list of our Favorite ‘Urban Roots’ Finds. At the top of that list today is their Stringless Sugar Snaps. Yesterday, we were sure their Risotto Style Cauliflower Rice Kit was what we loved best. Don’t be surprised if, like us, you do some fave flip-flopping yourself—because everything Urban Roots offers, from prepared items like Pineapple Mango Salsa to simply cut, super fresh veggies (like their Lacinato Kale, already cleaned and chopped), is delicious, flavorful and fresh.
