Predicting the weather is Punxsutawney Phil’s domain. Predicting what’s going to happen when it comes to food, farm policy and politics? That’s where the NYC Food Almanac 2012 comes in. On January 24th from 6:30 to 9 pm at 632Below, a group of experts (including Edible’s own Brian Halweil) will predict what will happen and call for what should happen with a panel discussion and Q&A.
It’s beginning to feel a lot like winter, right? Mittens, scarves and puffy parkas are all well and good, but when it comes to warming seriously chilled bones, they can’t quite compete with stiff drink. It’s safe to say that February will be frigid, so prepare early and get your tickets (available here) to Good Spirits, our seasonally inspired cocktail event on February 28th from 6 to 9 pm at 82 Mercer in Soho. Until then, below is the roster of this year’s participants to get you excited. Be sure to check out our Events Calendar for other great happenings going on around town.
Though it probably seems like a natural to readers of this magazine, rarely does the French Embassy host food events. But next Monday they are, and it’s one to skip work for. While Edible cooks up plenty of our own events (stay tuned for details about Good Spirits 2012, and enter to win tickets right here), below are some upcoming events from our comprehensive calendar we think you’ll want to dig into… like the Peck Slip Pickle Festival, with samples, a home-pickling and fermenting competition, traditional bialys and a talk by food writer par excellence Mimi Sheraton, who wrote The Bialy Eaters.
We’re especially excited about Edible Escape on October 19, our first travel-themed tasting.
