The Food Film Festival 2019, October 24 – 27
For the 13th year running, the Food Film Festival presents a series of films about the ways we cook and eat, accompanied by tastings of the foods you’ll see onscreen. This years screening selections include films about growing salad greens in the arctic, the “Last Tortilla Kings of Brooklyn,” the science behind why garlic tastes so good, wild foods of the Louisiana bayous, and a feature-length film about the family history behind New York’s own Russ and Daughters. Each screening will be followed by an afterparty with food and drinks from local restaurants and chefs.

Zero Waste NYC Workshop Series: A Deep Dive Into Food, October 24
Zero Waste NYC addresses one of the biggest contributors to the city’s growing waste problem—the food industry and our food consumption habits. The workshop will look at food waste issues in New York and tackle questions like what to eat to help lower your carbon and footprints, what to buy locally, how to cut down on packaging, how to dine out sustainably, plus strategies like composting and cooking using the so-called “undesirable” parts of your veggies. Snacks and beverages will be served, and guests will be given a tour of the DSNY Spring Street garage, an award-winning facility with a 50,000 square foot green roof.
DSNY Spring Street. Admission $15. More info: www.eventbrite.com
