To celebrate Women’s History Month, wine bar and restaurant Vinatería will be pouring the wines of women winemakers from Italy on Sunday, February 26. Tickets to the three-course pairing dinner go for $110, and the food on offer will include smoked ricotta ravioli with spinach, lemon zest and basil cream sauce; slow-braised duck, dark cherry glaze, roasted fennel, new potatoes, crispy duck skin and baby greens; and white chocolate bomba with blue cheese mousse and poached pear.
“We’re really excited to put on this dinner to kick off Women’s History Month in March,” says owner Yvette Leeper-Bueno. “It’s such an important time to celebrate and recognize the work that women do, and these wines really highlight women from around the world—from Italy to Harlem.”
Wine director Heidi Johnson is especially excited to showcase the wines of Elena Walch, who runs a 5th-generation vineyard in the Alto Adige region of Northern Italy. Walch focuses on sustainability and has brought her daughters into the fold to run the family business. “Aside from the wines themselves being of exceptional quality and representing their terroir so expressively,” Johnson notes, “her philosophy of sustainability in her vineyards and winemaking practice is a consciousness that we at Vinatería deeply believe in.” She’s “expecting the guests to experience an example of how a beautiful wine can be to a meal, as a conversation is to a friendship.”
