Last week local cheesemongers, milk purveyors, ice cream makers and butter churners took over the giant white space–fitting for a dairy-filled evening–at The Openhouse Gallery in Soho. From the sweet to the savory, the endless samples reminded us why we love all things dairy.
Things started out simple, with pure, delicious milk from Five Acre Farms, but quickly got wild. There was tangy yogurt from Organic Valley topped with juicy mango and granola. Stinky Bklyn laid out some fabulously funky, yet smooth blue cheese. And The Chocolate Room dished up scoops of heavenly Fresh Mint Chip Ice Cream, which was a far cry from the dyed green stuff you find in the supermarket. Of course, we’ll never forget the fancified Chocolate Puddin’ Pops from The Vanderbilt, topped with a dash of sea salt, or Momofuku Milk Bar‘s Milk Bar Cookies with Cereal Milk.
A night of feasting on cheese called for strong drinks. There was beer on tap from Kelso Beer Company, wine from Wölffer Estate Vineyard, a fizzy Gin Collins from Brooklyn Gin and Hudson Milk Punch–a brilliant collaboration between Five Acre Farms and Hudson Whiskey.
