“In 2010, the year I first arrived in New York City from Belfast, I built a midday ritual around Downtown Bakery Cocina Mexicana’s chicken mole burrito and cane cola. It was easy on the pocket, hearty, and delicious. On the days when I felt extravagant, or needed extravagance, I threw in some change for a portion of guacamole. Those lunches kept me going until The Dead Rabbit set up shop. They brought constant comfort amidst apprehension and ambition—both of which are part and parcel for anyone that arrives in this city with a limited suitcase and boundless dreams.”
